The task of an infectious disease specialist is to diagnose and treat various infectious diseases. These can include classic infectious diseases, or so-called contagious diseases, such as salmonellosis, borreliosis, infectious mononucleosis, chlamydia, toxoplasmosis, and parasitic infections. Another group consists of infections caused by human microflora, such as respiratory infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections (urethritis, cystitis, pyelonephritis), skin and subcutaneous tissue infections (infected trophic ulcers, chronic wounds, erysipelas, furunculosis), including infections caused by antibiotic-resistant microflora (MRSA, ESBL-positive bacterial strains, Pseudomonas aeruginosa). The infectious disease specialist is also involved in infection prevention, including HIV prevention (known as PrEP).
You can consult an infectious disease specialist for the following concerns:
- Prolonged diarrhea after traveling to exotic countries or after antibiotic use
- Chronic cough lasting more than 4 weeks; chlamydial and mycoplasma respiratory infections, pertussis
- Tick-borne infections: borreliosis, anaplasmosis, encephalitis
- Toxoplasmosis; cat scratch disease
- Parasitic infections (helminthiasis); giardiasis
- Chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C
- Chronic urinary tract infections
- Chronic skin infections, infected trophic ulcers, chronic wounds, bedsores
- Chronic fever of unknown origin
The specialist will help interpret and explain laboratory test results for infections, including immunological and microbiological tests, and prescribe treatment if necessary.
Consultations on vaccination-related issues are also available.
The consultations are conducted by a physician with 17 years of experience in infectious diseases (since 2007). In addition to medical practice, the physician has research experience and holds a doctoral degree.
Appointments are available on Wednesdays, from 17:00 to 20:00.
